Description

Esthetics means a lot of different things .  To the eye of the esthetic/restorative dentist it can be form, shade, gingival architectural balance and must always be function.  In this case the patient presented with the desire to have a more attractive smile.  Her self evaluation included teeth that were in need of shade enhancement and a concern about “not being able to see enough of her teeth when she smiled or when her lips were at rest.”  Smile design analysis revealed a number of concerns.

FUNCTIONAL SMILE DESIGN ANALYSIS:
1.            REVERSE SMILE LINE
2.            ASYMETRIC GINGIVAL ARCHETECTURE
3.            DIMINISHED BUCCAL CORRIDOR PRESENCE
4.            DENTAL PROPORTION ISSUES
5.            DENTO-FACIAL PROPORTION CONCERNS
6.            LACK OF LATERAL GUIDANCE
7.            LACK OF ANTERIOR GUIDANCE
8.            SHADE IMPROVEMENT

Esthetic restorative dentistry need not always be aggressive to accomplish these goals.  More often than not minimally invasive tissue preparation is adequate to attain superior esthetic and functional results.
